The table is inspired by one of the most collected American Woodworkers, George Nakashima. His pieces are featured at the Smithsonian and many other notable museums and galleries.
Nakashima is a major contributor to furniture design in the American Studio Craft style. He is acclaimed for his work with live edge slabs and his pieces are often paired with farmhouse, mid-century modern, and arts and craft period furniture and home decor.

The table was finished with two coats of Rubio Monocoat which provide a durable, scratch resistant, and easy to clean matte surface. The flattened slab and curved edges have been sanded to a high grit that feels exceptionally smooth. The table won the March 2023 Project of the Month distinction from the Rubio Monocoat Facebook group.
Aside from the threaded inserts that attach the slab to the base and accommodate for seasonal changes - the table is made using no screws or nails. Instead, Mortise and tenon, half-lap, and hidden dowels are used to join the table with integrity and craftsmanship.
The underside of the slab features the "Word & Wood" logo in the upper right corner and the "Handcrafted in Columbus" slogan and an engraved image of the city skyline in the lower left corner.
